The CIA's MK-Ultra LSD program was counterproductive to its stated goals
Confirmed Storming Heaven
Church Committee Investigation (1975): MK-Ultra produced no operational intelligence value from LSD. Subjects were uncontrollable; information obtained under LSD was unreliable; the drug could not produce the compliance the CIA sought. The program's only confirmed 'result' was Frank Olson's death and the contamination of the civilian research program with association to government malfeasance. The Church Committee report is the primary source. The CIA's own internal reviews (partially declassified) reached similar conclusions.
