The machine elves McKenna described are consistently encountered by DMT users across cultures

Unresolved recorded as “Similar Reports, Not Tested Across Cultures” True Hallucinations

Davis et al. 2020 (Johns Hopkins, J. Psychopharmacol. 34(9):1008-1020, n=2,561): respondents recruited for having had a DMT entity encounter described the entity as conscious, intelligent and benevolent; 69% reported receiving a message. The survey sampled people who had already had an encounter, so it does not establish a prevalence rate. Timmermann et al. 2023 (PNAS 120(13)): DMT produced large increases in global functional connectivity and a breakdown of network segregation; the study did not isolate entity contact. The survey shows similar reports among self-selected respondents; it did not compare cultures, so the 'across cultures' part of the claim is untested. The explanation (unconscious projection vs. external encounter) is not established.
