FDA approval of psilocybin-assisted therapy would make it broadly accessible to patients who need it

The Australian experience after the world's first psychedelic therapy approval (February 2023) is the most relevant data point: treatment costs $25,000-35,000 AUD per patient with no insurance coverage, fewer than 100 psychiatrists authorized nationally by mid-2024, access almost exclusively to wealthy private patients. US approval without mandatory insurance coverage and reimbursement would produce a similar boutique market. Approval is necessary but not sufficient for broad access.
