Since 1998, multiple universities have established formal ayahuasca research programs in collaboration with indigenous communities (CEBRID in Brazil, UNM in collaboration with Santo Daime, ICEERS in Barcelona). The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) has formal partnerships with multiple indigenous groups. Peru established the first national registry of traditional healers in 2008. The epistemological claim, that indigenous knowledge systems are legitimate research programs, has moved from radical to mainstream in medical anthropology and, increasingly, in clinical psychedelic research.
