Plato's theory of Forms was influenced by his Eleusinian initiation
Unresolved The Road to Eleusis
Plato was historically confirmed as an Eleusinian initiate. The phenomenological parallel between the Allegory of the Cave and psychedelic mystical experience is striking. Classical scholars (Burkert) argue theatrical performance was sufficient; Ruck argues the 'vision' language requires pharmacological explanation. The hypothesis is philosophically coherent but not falsifiable with available evidence.
