The Eleusinian Mysteries used an ergot-based psychedelic sacrament in the kykeon
Partially Confirmed recorded as “Gaining Support” The Road to Eleusis
Experimentally feasible (Antonopoulos et al., Scientific Reports 2026 showed lye converts ergotamine to water-soluble psychoactive forms). Archaeologically evidenced at affiliated site (Mas Castellar de Pontós, 2019-2020). Direct confirmation at Eleusis itself, ergot residue in the Telesterion, has not yet been found. Moving from speculative to evidenced.
