Psychedelic Education Reform: Huxley's Proposal
Education that teaches only verbal reasoning produces people who mistake symbols for things. A complete education would include training in direct perception, and mescaline could assist this training in appropriate contexts.

As of 2025, no jurisdiction has formally integrated psychedelic education into curriculum. However, 'contemplative education', mindfulness, somatic practices, non-verbal learning modalities, has gained significant institutional traction in K-12 and university settings. Johns Hopkins and NYU now train clinicians through guided psychedelic experiences. Oregon's Measure 109 (2023) created a licensed service framework for psilocybin sessions. The educational argument Huxley made remains ahead of institutional readiness but is no longer fringe.
